College Basketball Picks November 12th

UAB vs. Maryland

Maryland and UAB face off in the Asheville Championship losers bracket, but it should be a very fun game from the jump. UAB was one of the most electric Mid Major programs for the last few years, but they lost a step after graduating a few key pieces. This team still has firepower and loves to attack a high-major team. Although they started 0-2, those losses were to solid teams, and they were by a combined three points. This team knows it can compete and is surely hungry to get that first win.

Maryland is a talented team with a very solid coach, but they struggle to score the basketball from time to time. I would say UMD wins this game seven times out of ten, but I love this spot for the Blazers.

The Pick: UAB +5.5

Chicago State at Southern Indiana

We all know that Chicago State has been a profitable team to fade over the last few years, but they are rejuvenated and headed in the right direction. This started late last season and carried into the offseason after they brought on two of the most talented freshmen in the country. Matt and Ryan Bewley spent a few seasons at “Overtime Elite,” which is similar to an NBA G League for high-level high school recruits. Sadly enough, the NCAA denied them eligibility for the season after receiving money from the league.

So, why would I note this if they cannot even play? There is a different buzz in the air around this Chi State bunch. They are coming off a near win of recent NCAA Tourney Team Mercer. They face off against Southern Indiana, who came from division two last season. This is Chicago State’s best chance to win, and they are ready to get that W. Roll with the Cougars.

The Pick: Chicago State +4.5
