UFC 300: Pereira vs Hill – Predictions & Best Bets
Calvin Kattar ML (+145) vs. Aljamain Sterling
I understand the narrative around Kattar’s knee injury. Particularly against a game grappler, that would seem like an issue worth monitoring. However, I feel confident in the way his takedown defense has held up in the past.
He stuffed everything that Dan Ige sent his way and stuffed Zabit Magomedsharipov in three of his four attempts. If this stays on the feet, Kattar should be the much better striker and cruise to victory.
Justin Gaethje vs Max Holloway – Fight Goes to Decision (-110)
Both of these guys are as tough as they come. Holloway has never been finished by strikes in his 32 fight career. Gaethje, on the other hand, was finished in two of his first three UFC bouts but, since then, has toned the recklessness down just a bit. Even if that turns up again here, I don’t see Holloway having the power at lightweight to put him away.
Alex Pereira ML (-130) vs Jamahal Hill
I can’t believe that this moneyline is sitting where it is. Pereira is the far more technical of the two strikers. He may not have the raw punching power that Hill does, but so far in MMA, he has been pretty hard to get your hands on. Hill, on the other hand, is a bit more clumsy on the feet and a bit more plodding. While that’s worked against guys like Johnny Walker, I can’t see that style playing well against Pereira.
Deiveson Figueiredo – Wins via (T)KO (+180)
Cody Garbrandt may only be 31 years old, but his chin has a lot more age on it than that. Since winning his title over Dominic Cruz, he has gone 3-5. In that time, he was knocked out in four of those five losses. Although he hasn’t (T)KOed anyone recently, Figueiredo has always had some powerful hands. Those seemed to play up a bit on his move to bantamweight, and I expect them to pay off.
Diego Lopes ML (-145) vs Sodiq Yusuff
Lopes has looked incredible since joining the UFC. Even in his debut on short notice, he battled Movsar Evloev in a decision that could have gone either way. Since then, he’s spent just over three minutes in the cage and has come away with two wins. While I like Yusuff’s skills, his resume didn’t age particularly well, and I think this may be too much for him on the grappling side of things.
Jim Miller – Wins via (T)KO (+550)
I always love to end these with a big play and this is one I see a lot of value in. Miller has looked like a different fighter since he started letting go of his hands. He’s gone 5-1 in his last six fights, and three of those wins were by (T)KO. On top of that, Bobby Green is coming off being sparked just back in December.
