MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 28

Cincinnati Reds vs. Texas Rangers

First Pitch – 2:35 pm EST
Globe Life Field – Arlington, Texas
Broadcast – MLB TV

As those of you who follow the column know, I like a NRFI where I only have to worry about one side. The Reds offense is not a side I feel conerned about. They are ranked 26th in MLB in first inning runs at just 0.35. They’re also 24th in the league in YRFI percentage. Those two things along with Dane Dunning standing across from them – it all should clearly lead to an NRFI.

The side to worry about is the Texas offense. They’ve been good this year – ranked 6th in scoring in the first inning and 12th overall on the year. However, they face Andrew Abbott, who has been solid so far this year. He has a 2.60 ERA on the year and hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any start so far. I like his chances to get out of the first here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 28: No (+100)

Houston Astros vs. Colorado Rockies

First Pitch – 4:05 pm EST
Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú – Mexico City, Mexico
Broadcast – ESPN

Another game that I only fear one side is down in Mexico on Sunday. The Rockies offense has been bad and they get the pleasure of facing Framber Valdez. The Rockies are averaging just 3.85 runs per game. With Valdez’s 2.19 ERA, I have some faith that he keeps them scoreless early on.

The Astros’ offense is more worrisome due to the names in it, but their success rate is still low. They are in the bottom third of the league in first inning runs. Additionally, Austin Gomber has been way better than expected. He has held teams to three or less runs in each of his last four starts. That should be enough for the NRFI to cash on Sunday. Plus, with the game being at even higher elevation, the number is juiced up, so you’ll get a nice price on the play.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 28: No (+175)
