MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 14

Miami Marlins vs. Detroit Tigers

First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
Comerica Park – Detroit, Michigan
Broadcast – MLB TV

There are two sides to every NRFI, but this is a game that really feels like there is only one. The Tigers send Reese Olson to the hill on Tuesday and he’s quietly been phenomenal for them. Despite carrying an 0-4 record, he’s allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last five starts. He also allowed one or less in four of those. The Marlins offense is pretty brutal this year, ranking 27th in runs scored, so that should get us off on the right foot in the top of the inning.

The bottom of the first is likely to be a bit more of a sweat. Ryan Weathers hasn’t looked great in his last few starts. However, to be fair, he had the Dodgers and the Braves offenses mixed in there. With that being said, the Tigers haven’t been all that great offensively – particularly at the top of the order. They are in the bottom third in the league in runs scored. Plus, they haven’t scored in the first inning in any of the past five games.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 14: No (-120)

Chicago Cubs vs. Atlanta Braves

First Pitch – 7:20 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, Georgia
Broadcast – MLB TV

We rode a pair of pitchers in this game yesterday to not just an NRFI but no runs in the first five innings. Both Reynaldo Lopez and Shota Imanaga went five scoreless to start the game, and that’s been what we expect from these two offenses lately. The Cubs have been sub-par, and the Braves have been doing all their scoring late. They have more runs in the 8th inning or later than any team in the majors—which, of course, doesn’t affect the NRFI.

Now, we’ll get another pair of stellar pitchers. Jameson Taillon carries a 1.13 ERA into Tuesday. He hasn’t allowed more than one earned run in any game this year. His counterpart will be Chris Sale, who looked sensational against his old club last start – 10 strikeouts and no runs over six innings. This one should look similar to Monday’s affair.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 14: No (-135)
