Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 17
Shohei Ohtani – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Shohei has been having the season that we all knew he could have if he just focused on hitting. He’s rocking an 1.099 OPS at this stage in the season and doesn’t appear to be slowing down. He certainly won’t be as he faces Frankie Montas. Against the Reds’ righty, Ohtani is 9-for-24 with four dingers. Two total bases should come with a single swing of the bat.
Paul Skenes – Higher than 6.5 Strikeouts
Skenes looked as advertised in his debut. He struck out seven over 4.0+ innings, which was shortened by the fact that he got touched up a bit in the 5th. In his second game, I expect him to be a touch sharper than he was the first time out. It’ll be against these same Cubs, so he has some experience there as well. I don’t know why I’d expect him to come up short of what he did last time.
Masyn Winn – Higher than 0.5 Total Bases
Winn has quietly walked into this Friday with a six-game hitting streak. He’s got nine total bases over that stretch of time, which is putting him a whole base above this projection. Brayan Bello is a solid starter and being same-handed is likely the reason for this projection going down. However, he’s going to see relievers and with this streak, I’m comfortable he gets a hit here.
