Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – June 5
Spencer Steer Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Spencer Steer started off 2024 as hot as any hitter in baseball. He has since cooled off, but it seems like he is getting on another hot streak. Steer has multi-hit games in each of his last four, including three-hit performances on Saturday and Monday. He’s helped the Reds get back on track, winning four of their last five.
Steer will also be facing Rockies starter Dakota Hudson, who has struggled immensely at home this season. In six starts at Coors Field, Hudson is 0-3 with a 7.43 ERA. Hopefully the Coors effect plays in our favor here. Spencer Steer is a no-brainer!
Aaron Ashby Higher than 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed
After trading star pitcher Corbin Burnes in the offseason, many thought the Brewers would regroup and rebuild for years to come, but that has not been the case. As a pitching staff, the Brew Crew have allowed the ninth fewest runs per game.
25-year-old lefty Robert Gasser was one of the reasons for Milwaukee’s success, but unfortunately, he experienced elbow tightness in his last appearance.
As a result, the Brewers recalled former top prospect Aaron Ashby to the big leagues to make his second start of the season on Wednesday. Ashby last pitched for the big league squad on April 6th, where he got roughed up, allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits in just 3.2 innings pitched in Cincinnati. Now he gets the pleasure of facing the National League’s best team in the Phillies, who score the second most runs in all of baseball.
All this doesn’t exactly bode well for Ashby, who will have his work cut out for him today.
Juan Soto Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
We fell short of the Juan Soto play the last time the Yankees faced off against Chris Paddack, but I’m bringing it back because I’m trusting the numbers. Soto is 3-6 in his career against Paddack with 2 home runs. If you look even deeper into the advanced metrics, it looks even better for us. Against Paddack, Soto has an xSLUG of 1.155, an xwOBA of .668, and an average exit velocity of 101.9. In short, Soto sees Paddack very well, and when he connects, he absolutely smashes the baseball.
