Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – June 7

Chris Sale Lower than 0.5 1st Inn. Hits Allowed

Full disclosure: I am going against the numbers for this one. Chris Sale has been dominant so far this season, although he had his worst start in his last outing against the A’s. He allowed 8 earned runs in just 4.0 innings pitched. Sale has also struggled the most in the first inning, allowing 10 hits, 6 earned runs, and 4 home runs in 11 innings pitched.

But, there are some numbers in our favor here. The Nationals are 26th in baseball in first inning hits and dead last in first inning runs. Quite simply, their offense is anemic and should present no challenge to the veteran Sale, who will be looking to get back on track on Friday.

Garrett Crochet Higher than 7.5 Strikeouts

One of the lone bright spots for the White Sox this season has been the emergence of Garrett Crochet as a starter. The 24-year-old is 5-5 with a 3.49 ERA. Although the numbers won’t exactly blow you away, it’s a huge step up from his struggles as a reliever. Crochet has hit this strikeout number in his last two starts.

The Red Sox are a team prone to strikeouts, striking out the third most times in baseball. On Tuesday, Boston allowed Max Fried to reach a career-high in strikeouts with 13. Boston has a solid offense but struggles against LHP. This strikeout number seems a bit low to me.

Aaron Judge Higher than 0.5 Batter Walks

We’re going back to the trusty Judge walk selection here. Judge still leads all of baseball in walks with 52. At the time of writing, I am not sure if Juan Soto will be in the Yankee lineup today against the Dodgers. He was removed from last night’s game because of forearm discomfort.

According to the Yankees, Soto is getting “imaging” today. The Yankees are notoriously overly cautious about injuries, especially with their star players.

I’m assuming Soto will most likely be out of the Yankee lineup on Friday, which I believe makes this pick even more of a slam dunk. Without Soto, there is one less Yankee you’re worried will do damage. I think Yamamoto will opt to put Judge on base rather than give him good pitches to hit.
