Collegiate Baseball continues to grow, and it is amazing to see! One of the biggest examples of the sport’s growth has been the NCAA Baseball gambling market. Georgia: TBA, Zach Harris SO RHP: 5-1, 6.69 ERA, 42 K, 18 BB, 35 IP, 3.57 SIERA
This series has been pretty uninteresting so far. NC State dismantled Georgia in Game 1 18-1. In Game 2, the Bulldogs curbstomped the Wolf Pack 11-2. As a result, both bullpens are as fresh as you could ask for, given that each team basically punted after falling down big. By no means is NC State’s bullpen good (5.76 Weekend ERA), but it is marginally better than Georgia’s (7.20).
NCSU should have four arms with +25 innings pitched and sub-5 ERAs to mix and match with. UGA’s top three options from the arm barn would be Christian Mracna (5.32 ERA, 45.2 IP), Jarvis Evans (5.49 ERA), and Brian Zeldin (5.60 ERA).
However, I think the pen is NC State’s only advantage over Georgia. NCSU’s projected starting pitcher, Logan Whitaker, has a 7.52 ERA in road games and an 8.01 ERA in his last six appearances.
UGA’s lineup is elite, especially against RHPs. The Bulldogs have a 138 wRC+, a 1.031 Team OPS, and specifically against orthodox pitching, it’s a 1.107 OPS. UGA’s projected starter, Zach Harris, has been pretty much the polar opposite of Whitaker. Harris has a 2.92 ERA in his last appearances.
Here’s how I think this game plays out. Zach Harris goes well, pitching five or six innings of good ball. Logan Whitaker gets touched up for four or five runs and receives a quick yank. After the starting pitchers, I think both bullpens have an opportunity to do okay. Ultimately, I think Georgia’s quick start gives them the best chance to win this ballgame.
