Underdog Fantasy NBA Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – June 12
Kyrie Irving – Higher than 23.5 Points
The welcome home to Boston wasn’t exactly a warm one. In addition to hearing it from the crowd every time he touched the ball, the Celtics were all over him on defense. The latter isn’t going to change at all, but heading home is going to alleviate the former. It’s hard to tell how much of each of those things is responsible for him shooting almost 14% lower from the field than he did in the previous series and 0-for-8 from deep, but I expect him to be quite a bit better at home.
Al Horford – Higher than 2.5 1st Quarter Points
The injury to Kristaps Porzingis is going to help the stats of Al Horford quite a bit. Not only is it going to secure him the start yet again, but he should see a minutes increase as well. Up 2-0 in the series, there is no real reason to push Porzingis into more action. Even if he does play, I expect him to come on later in the first than he usually does. That should give Horford a few more early attempts. He already had three attempts and five points in Game 2, so with more action, he should clear this easily.
Dereck Lively II – Higher than 6.0 Rebounds
Lively has been better on the boards in the playoffs than he was during the regular season. After averaging 6.9 rebounds per game, he has gone for 7.8 in each of the last two series. Either of those numbers would inspire confidence for beating this projection – as would his seven boards in Game 2. He’s met this projection in eight of his last ten games at this point. Getting his first home game of the finals should help him get over that hump yet again.
