MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 12
Washington Nationals vs. Detroit Tigers
First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
Comerica Park – Detroit, Michigan
Broadcast – MLB TV
We were in on this showdown yesterday, thanks to the two dormant offenses. The Nationals are 29th in the majors in first inning runs with just 0.25 per game and were shut out in the first inning again yesterday. In addition, the Tigers get a huge upgrade to their pitching situation.
Yesterday’s game saw Kenta Maeda and his 6.25 ERA get going, but we’ll see a much better arm on the bump on Wednesday. Reese Olson takes the mound with his 3.43 ERA. He’s been hit hard in his last two starts but had thrown 17.0 innings with just one earned run prior. If there is a time to get things right, it’s against the Nationals.
The Tigers aren’t nearly as bad offensively as the Nationals. However, they are nothing to write home about either. They’re middle of the pack in pretty much any meaningful category. Like the Tigers, the Nationals get a big upgrade to their pitching situation. Jake Irvin takes the hill, and he’s been sensational lately. He’s allowed just two earned runs in his last three starts combined (18.0 innings).
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 12: No (-120)
Cleveland Guardians vs. Cincinnati Reds
First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Great American Ball Park – Cincinnati, Ohio
Broadcast – ESPN+
In the top half of the inning, the Guardians will go toe-to-toe with Nick Lodolo. Lodolo has six wins already on the year thanks to a sub-1.00 WHIP and a sub-3.00 ERA. He’s allowed just four earned runs over his last three starts (17.1 innings). He also saw a huge uptick in strikeouts last time out, when he got seven. That should help him against Cleveland, who is notoriously a hard team to fan.
On the other side of things, Tanner Bibee will be trying to bring the NRFI home for us. Luckily for him, Cincinnati’s offense hasn’t been all that strong this year. They’re ranked 24th in first inning runs with just 0.40 per game. That should be enough for me to throw my confidence at Bibee, who has allowed just seven earned in his last five starts combined (29.2 innings).
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 12: No (-130)
