NASCAR Picks, Odds, and Best Bets: Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol at Iowa Speedway

NASCAR heads to the cornfields of Iowa, just 30 miles East of Des Moines to Newton, Iowa. There sits a ⅞ mile track that opened in 2006. Designed in part by NASCAR Hall-of-Famer Rusty Wallace, the track has hosted all of NASCAR’s premier series outside of the Cup Series, along with IndyCar. Before we get into this week’s NASCAR picks, odds, and best bets for the Iowa Corn 350, let’s get to know the track a little more.

NASCAR Picks, Odds, and Best Bets: Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol at Iowa Speedway

Nicknamed “The Fastest Short Track on the Planet” Iowa’s D-shaped oval will quickly remind you of Richmond Raceway. Banked at just 10 degrees on the front stretch, four degrees on the backstretch, and 12-14 degrees in the corners, it’ll race a lot like World Wide Technologies Raceway from two weeks ago in St Louis.

For betting purposes, WWT, Richmond, Phoenix, and even New Hampshire from last year are all comparable tracks you can look at when making your Iowa Corn 350 picks.

Iowa Corn 350 Best Bets

Ryan Blaney Over William Byron (-125)

Going back a few weeks ago to World Wide Technology Raceway, Ryan Blaney ran up front all day long. He was third in both stages and on his way to winning the race. Of course, coming to take the white flag, his gas tank ran dry, and his 24th-place DI sin wasn’t indicative of his day.

William Byron showed a little speed early in the race, mixing it up with the leaders, but fell off and wasn’t in competition for much later on, settling for a 15th-place finish.

At Phoenix, it was a similar story. The #12 and #24 found themselves around each other throughout the day, finishing within two spots of each other in each stage. Late in the race, Byron seemed to start to fall off, with Blaney holding on to a fifth-place finish. Byron would come home in 18th. The Fords have shown strong ability as of late, especially on the shorter tracks, give me Blaney in Iowa.

Denny Hamlin Top 5 (+125)

Honestly, this line is a gift from the books. Denny Hamlin had bad luck last week with an engine expiring on lap two. Before that, Hamlin had five straight top-five finishes, six if you want to toss in the All-Star race. At Gateway, Hamlin scored second place after late troubles from Bell and Blaney.

Hamlin won at Richmond and finished 11th at Phoenix, but he led 68 laps that day. This track sets up perfectly for Toyota and Hamlin. I’m tossing out last week and thinking his top-five streak continues.

Kyle Larson to Win (+700)

Larson came through for us at Sonoma last week, cashing the 9/1 ticket, and we’re going to ride him again this week. While Chevy and Larson struggled a bit at both Gateway and Phoenix, Richmond is a track that compares to Iowa Speedway as well. At Richmond, Larson led 144 laps and finished in third place. So, if Iowa leans a little more like Richmond, this could play into his favor.

The other thing with Larson is you are getting the best driver in the world when he’s coming off winning a race at home in California. You are getting a great number at 7/1, not the 4/1 you’d maybe expect to see.

Larson was also the Chevrolet driver who tire tested here just a few weeks ago. We saw the advantage that gave Joey Logano and North Wilkesboro and even Truex, Buescher, and Chastain last week at Sonoma. Give the best driver and crew chief in the garage extra time to prep, then give him to us at 7/1. Sign me up.

Chris Buescher to Win (+2000)

If you are looking for a little bit of a longer shot, Larson can’t get the job done. Chris Buescher is a great bet to look at at 20/1. Buescher has had his ups and downs in 2024, most notably losing the closest finish in NASCAR history at Kansas Speedway to Kyle Larson.

At Phoenix, Buescher scored a second-place finish and also showed speed at North Wilkesboro in the All-Star race where he finished in third. Buescher finished fifth at Phoenix in the fall and won the summer Richmond race in 2023 as well. Teammate Brad Keselowski finished third at WWT just two weeks ago as well, showing what these RFK Fords are capable of. Buescher has the upside you want at this kind of number.
