Bring on the carnage. What a beautiful Thursday of golf we saw from Pinehurst. Day one turned out just about how I would have expected. The guys at the top of the leaderboard got the job done almost entirely with the short game. Even the best shots ended up in bad spots. That is Pinehurst! As the course continues to firm up, expect more of the same. Below, we will take a look at the Underdog Fantasy Pick ‘Em board for June 14th. Let’s cash a slip again! Pars are good, and bogeys will happen. Let’s take advantage of the scoring conditions.

Scottie Scheffler Less Than 3.5 Birdies
I will grab these “Less Than” birdie props whenever Underdog wants to list the 3.5. No matter who you are, making four birdies around Pinehurst No. 2 is no easy task. As I have been saying all week, great iron shots are not getting rewarded like they do on a normal week. Unless they add an absurd amount of water, the course will only get tougher.
“scottie’s very frustrated he hit that ball perfectly but it ended up 30 feet from the hole location”
it’s almost… like there’s very little path for elite iron players to separate themselves on a course like this, if only we weren’t banging this drum all week !!
pine is elite

Hideki Matsuyama Less Than 9.5 par 5 strokes
Although the course is a brute, there are chances on the par 5’s. Hole 5 is much easier than Hole 10. Hideki grabbed a birdie on 5 and made par on 10, playing these holes in 9 strokes. I expect more of the same tomorrow, if not better. Hideki will be going off in the morning, which will be a tad easier than the afternoon, and he will be going off number 1.
I prefer him to play the front first rather than playing the par 5 10th first so he can get his feet wet before he taps into the par 5s. We had a solid day one, but we can bet better on day two. Pencil in Hideki in for your Underdog Fantasy Pick ‘Em slips.
