MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 15
Cincinnati Reds vs. Milwaukee Brewers
First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
American Family Field – Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Broadcast – MLB TV
The top half of the inning doesn’t feel like much of a sweat here for the NRFI. The Reds have been a middle of the pack team in terms of run scoring, but have been particularly bad early in the game. They rank 24th in first inning runs in the majors, and facing Bryse Wilson shouldn’t help matters for them.
Wilson got hit around a bit in his last start, but had been really good leading up to that. He gave up seven runs to the Tigers, but that was the first time all year that he had allowed more than three runs. On top of that, he’s only allowed three runs twice on the season – starts against the Phillies and Red Sox – and outside of that, he’s opponents to two or fewer.
Squaring off with Wilson will be Andrew Abbott. The Reds’ lefty carries a 3.28 ERA into the weekend and had held his opponents to one run or fewer in three of the last five games. He’s also allowed two runs or fewer in five of his last seven. With the Brewers also in the bottom third of the league in first inning runs, Abbott should shut the door on this NRFI.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 15: No (-110)
Kansas City Royals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
First Pitch – 9:10 pm EST
Dodgers Stadium – Los Angeles, California
Broadcast – MLB TV
This is not an NRFI play where we’re chasing poor hitting teams. Both of these two rank in the top seven of both runs scored and first inning runs. However, with the pitching matchup, I still think this is a good spot for an NRFI.
In the top half of the inning, Yoshinobu Yamamoto will look to stifle the Kansas City offense. He’s the right guy for the job given that he’s allowed just one earned run over his last two starts (13.0 innings), with one of those starts being against the Yankees. He also struck out 14 in that span. If we need more incentive, the Royals haven’t score in the first inning for a week, which should help Yamamoto get this off on the right foot.
Seth Lugo starts for the Royals and actually has a lower ERA than Yamamoto. His nine wins put him in first in the American League and his 2.38 ERA is good for 5th. The Yankees got to him a little bit last time, but they’re one of the better offenses out there right now. I like him to right the ship in this one.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 15: No (-120)
