Of course, there are plenty out there taking blind guesses at this stuff. It’s easy to pick the best hitting team or look at what happened in the last game. However, we spent the time pouring through the analytics to make sure that we give you the best odds to stay in the green on these NRFI and YRFI props for May 19. MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 19
Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland Guardians
First Pitch – 1:40 pm EST
Progressive Field – Cleveland, Ohio
Broadcast – MLB TV
The top half of this inning is going to be a bit easier for the NRFI here. The Guardians will have Tanner Bibee on the mound against this Twins offense. He’s been scoreless in two of his last four starts, but has also bit hit around in the others. The scoreless starts come against the Rangers and the Braves, which show that it’s not a fluke. Being up again the middle of the pack offense of Minnesota should be simple enough for him to keep them quiet early.
The bottom half seems like a bit more of a concern because the Gaurdians are ranked in the top five of runs scored. However, they typically take a bit to get that offense going. As a result, they rank 22nd in runs in the first inning. Chris Paddack doesn’t have a shiny and beautiful ERA, but he has held his opponents to one or less runs in three of his last five starts.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 19: No (-125)
Cincinnati Reds vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
Dodger Stadium – Los Angeles, California
Broadcast – MLB TV
The top half of the inning here should be the easier yet again. Yoshinobu Yamamoto takes the hill for the Dodgers, and he’s been solid so far. Braodcast jinxes notwithstanding, he’s been solid early in games and carries a 3.21 ERA into Sunday. The Reds are 26th in MLB in first inning runs with just 0.37 per game. Yamamoto should be able to silence them early on in this one without too much issues.
Keeping the Dodgers quiet for the NRFI is a much taller task. They’re a top ten team in both runs scored and first inning runs score (albeit a touch worse in the first inning). We’re willing to put our faith in the live arm of Hunter Greene. His ERA is actually only a pinch higher than Yamamoto and his recent results have been even better. He’s held his opponents to three or less runs in all of his last four starts. Three of those starts were also two or less.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 19: No (-135)
