MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 27
Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles
First Pitch – 1:05 pm EST
Camden Yards – Baltimore, Maryland
Broadcast – NESN
In the top half of the first Cole Irvin will try to silence the Red Sox bats. He’s thrown out of the pen in the last two outings, which is confusing given that he had two earned runs in the four starts prior (25.2 innings). His 3.15 ERA has made him worthy of another start.
The Boston bats aren’t much to worry about either. They’re middle of the pack in just about every offensive category and it’s been a week since they’ve scored in the first inning. With how good Irvin has looked in starts, he should lock them up here.
On the other side, we certainly should worry about the strong hitting from the home club. However, you have to love what Cooper Criswell has been for the Red Sox. He has a 2.89 ERA and has only allowed more than two earned runs in one start. Let’s see him cruise through the bottom half and get us the NRFI.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 27: No (+100)
Cleveland Guardians vs. Colorado Rockies
First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
Coors Field – Denver, Colorado
Broadcast – MLB TV
You have to have a fair amount of confidence in a Rockies pitcher to take an NRFI line with a top five offense coming to elevation. However, that’s exactly what I have here.
Despite the strength of the Guardians’ bats, I like Austin Gomber to keep them quiet in the top half of the inning here. The 30-year old lefty has been outstanding lately. He’s allowed just two earned runs in his last four starts (26.2 innings pitched). Both of them have come on solo home runs. With Jose Ramirez being the only real home run threat in the top three hitters, I like his chances to keep it quiet early.
On the opposite side, Xzavion Curry has been good in his short season so far. In two starts (9.1 innings pitched), he’s allowed just two earned runs. He’ll have the added benefit of facing a team in the bottom third of the league in offense, and that’s with playing half of their games at elevation.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 27: No (+120)
