Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 31
Jose Soriano – Higher than 6.0 Strikeouts
Some of this play is a buy of Jose Soriano and some of it is a sell of the Mariners’ bats. The Mariners are striking out more than any team in the league (10.24 per game). Soriano also is no slouch in getting swing and misses. He’s had at least six strikeouts in three of his last four games, which includes eight last time out against the Guardians (who are 5th in limiting strikeouts).
Ryan Mountcastle – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
It’s a small sample size, but I love what I’ve seen from Mountcastle against Aaron Civale. In six plate appearances, he has five hits. Three of those hits have been for extra-bases as well – two homers and a double. To add to the confidence, Mountcastle has also passed this projection in three of his last four games.
Kyle Schwarber – Lower than 1.5 Total Bases
Miles Mikolas hasn’t been great as of late, but he’s pretty much always great when he sees Kyle Schwarber in the box. The Cardinals righty has owned Schwarber over their 32 confrontations. He’s had just six hits in that span leading to a .194 batting average and .219 on-base percentage. He also has eight strikeouts there. Maybe he gets a reliever here, but I’ll bank on him coming up short on this projection.
